Kelly Edwards, who founded LocalHOOPS in 2009, in his Junior season at Lewis & Clark College. Upon graduation, Kelly came back to his hometown, Seattle Washington, and began working with local athletes around the greater Seattle area. Turning down opportunities to play professionally overseas, Kelly had found a new passion working with the youth. Kelly aspires to give back to his community, the way it gave back to him.
Kelly is a graduate from Lewis & Clark College, class of 2011. Kelly has been spreading the knowledge he has gained over the past 17 years to athletes of all ages and skill sets, who love the game of basketball. Kelly played professional basketball in the ABA, but his true passion is preparing young athletes to pursue their own basketball dreams.
In high school Kelly won the 3A State Championship at O'Dea High School. During his four year high school career, O'dea won three State Championships, and lost in the State Championship is Junior year. Kelly graduated from O'dea High School with second honors in 2007.
Not satisfied with the collegiate offers Kelly received at O'Dea, he continued on to play under Che Dawson at Highline Community College, which was an amazing experience for him. He entered Highline with 9 other freshman, and only two sophomores. During his sophomore season, Highline won the Western Division title, giving them a #1 seed in the NWAACC tournament. Highline lost in the Semi-Final game of the tournament. Kelly credits his coach Che Dawson for his current success. "Without his mentorship, I wouldn't be the man I am today".
After Highline Kelly attended Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. His junior year Kelly was named Second Team All-Conference averaging 16.5 points per game, and 5 rebounds per game in conference. His senior year he was named First Team All-Conference averaging 19 points per game and 7 rebounds per game in conference, leading his team to a #24 rank in the nation.
Kelly has been impacting young athletes lives, willing to give back to his community in any way possible. Kelly strongly believes that it is truly a blessing to be able to do what you love for a living! "I wouldn't trade this for the world".
We are blessed to have Coach Kelly as a leader with BDA in the Puget Sound area.
